There’s a whole list of superheroes not mentioned in that list which has either had television shows or movies made about them. Marvel and DC are in full swing with their movies and that doesn’t include superheroes appearing in their own movies. Marvel is a great example of this as characters frequently cross over movies before joining up in The Avengers films. DC even had Superman and Batman appearing in the same movie. Hell The Green Arrow, The Flash and Super Girl have all had crossovers in the television world. But how far will it go? Well rumours has it Guardians of the Galaxy will be joining The Avengers soon to take down Thanos.
Robert Downey Jr made a comment in an interview last year saying the market was over saturated with super heroes and he was probably right. Just look around you and there’s a superhero at every turn. My son has Lego Dimensions and it’s got all DC characters, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and more. Marvel do not appear in this franchise but they have their own Lego game. When you visit the shops you’ll notice a wide range of superhero merchandise from pillows to posters to seats. There’s something for everyone. The good thing about these movies is they appeal to everyone!
But the question that remains and it is the most important one…DC or Marvel? For me Marvel has that edge and I find that franchise more interesting to follow. While a huge fan of Superman (movies, television shows and even Smallville), there’s not enough good DC characters for me to get invested about. But I’m keen to know what your thoughts are. Marvel or DC? Who’s your favourite? Is Superhero market over saturated?
